Project Brief

An essential Feed & Forage testing system was running on a Microsoft Access database with no available source code. Elaine served as the sole contractor on the federally funded project to modernize the system, migrate its data and restore a maintainable technical foundation.

The work included replacing the Access database with Microsoft SQL Server, rebuilding reporting capabilities and ensuring the new source code was properly delivered into version control.

The Challenge

The existing application depended on Microsoft Access, its original source code was unavailable and the system needed to continue supporting department operations.

The Solution

Elaine modernized the database environment by migrating it from Microsoft Access to SQL Server and creating replacement reports using SSRS. The project also established proper source and version control for the resulting code.

The Outcome

The department received a modernized SQL Server solution with new reporting capabilities and properly managed source code.

Business Impact

Rather than leaving an important operational system dependent on an aging database and unavailable source code, the project created a more maintainable foundation for continued use.
